The web is for everyone

Thoughtful design and content from a team on a mission to increase access and equity.

Accessibility is a must-have for healthcare organizations. With 23% of the population living with a permanent or temporary disability, it is our duty to ensure that everyone can access critical healthcare information and can use online tools to manage their care.

Accessibility goes farther than compliance.

Compliance laws in both the United States and Canada require healthcare websites to meet WCAG 2.1 AA requirements. But that’s just the beginning. A truly accessible website takes into account not just assistive technology, but other considerations like:

  • Using plain language
  • Contextual cues
  • Imagery that’s reflective of your community
  • Inclusive and non-stigmatizing language
  • User journeys and points of friction

Accessibility is worth fighting for

The Reason One Accessibility Team (r1at) has met regularly since 2015 to learn inclusive best practices and discuss how to apply them to our work. We also attend and sponsor digital accessibility meet ups and conferences in the local accessibility community.

We call this group r1at (riot) because we believe accessibility is worth fighting for.

At Reason One, equity isn’t a buzzword or a box to check.

  • Our designers lead with accessibility.
  • Our developers prioritize fast load times for patients using older devices or slower connections.
  • And our content strategists write in plain, clear language—because it matters.
  • Our approach helps people better understand instructions, follow care plans, and access the care they need.

Everyone deserves equal access to information online, and it’s our responsibility—as designers, developers, and content creators—to help bridge the usability gap.
